Background of the collaboration

The collaboration with KM.ON was to promote the concept of Industry 4.0, the application and adoption of the cutting-edge technologies in the fashion and textile industry in bringing it to the next era; as well as to educate my students on such concept through practical learning. Industry 4.0 covers several emerging technologies such as Big Data, Cloud Technologies, Internet of Things (IoTs), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other advanced production methods, and unlocks significant value across multiple areas of production network. Some studies report that Industry 4.0 technologies can help reduce 20% of cost and increase at least 15-30% of productivity for factories worldwide. Industry 4.0 has become a reality in the textile industry that the traditional work process, decision-making process and even the model of intensive use of labor will be completely changed. KARL MAYER Group, market leader of textile machinery industry has inaugurated digital technology company KM.ON.

This is a high-level collaborative project that students did research, developed their understanding on a number of related technology topics, its benefits and impacts to the industry, and presented them in a convincing and interactive way (for both business and customers). Student prepared a series of videos together with brief write-up to present their findings to business (textile industry) in attractive, innovative, convincing and easy-to-understand way.
