CAFI Research Group and PolyU Digital Fashion students have designed and developed an immersive exhibition experience, utilising cutting-edge AR/VR technology, for visitors. The immersive XR (Extended Reality) experience, named as ‘The Reality of Silk 虛實交織’, enabling visitors to explore traditional silk craftsmanship in various digital forms. Visitors and audience could immerse themselves in the curated virtual scenes featuring the exhibits of Chinese export silk, including embroidered bedcovers and hand-painted wallpaper. Visitors could also virtually try on the silk garments and interact with the virtual avatars wearing Chinese costumes or redesigned silk fashion, parading traditional silk crafts across time and space. The collaboration offered a way to showcase how new media technology can be combined with the creativity of teachers and students, allowing people to discover the silk exhibits from diverse angles.
